Día Mundial de la Ciencia para la Paz y el Desarrollo

Created by Razan Jilani

Organized every 2 years, the forum is one of the world’s major science events. It brings together over 600 scientists and provides linkages between scientists, industry and policy makers to focus on the social and economic relevance, influence and responsibilities of science. This edition of the forum is organized Under the theme "Science for Peace" The 2017 World Science Forum will will take place in Jordan, at the heart of a region where countless civilizations have had to innovate to survive, where innovative adaptation and cultural exchange have gone hand in hand over many millennia. A special celebration of the World Science Day for Peace and Development will take place on 10 November.

Building on its global debut last November, the world’s science centers and science museums are pleased to announce the 2017 International Science Center and Science Museum Day (ISCSMD) for Friday, November 10, in conjunction with UN’s World Science Day for Peace and Development. Join them as they celebrate and demonstrate our institutions as the Earth’s most influential combined force for engaging the public with science, technology, related civic decision-making, and direct action to solve the critical issues facing the planet.

Albanian Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth and UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe.

On 9-10 November, in cooperation with the Albanian Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, our Office will be conducting a 2-day training for teachers of science, both primary and secondary schools, on how to apply Inquiry-learning and Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) to better empower both girls and boys in the science classroom. Many of the skills and ideas presented are coming from the lessons learned from the Ark of Inquiry project, an EU-funded teacher training project our office has been implementing in Europe on IBSE. Around 40 teachers will be present for the training, which will involve hands-on learning activities. On the second day of the training, World Science Day, we foresee to invite members of the Albanian Women in Science network to join in as invaluable resources for teachers, both to potentially assist with inquiry activities in the classroom, in their fields of expertise and also to serve as new role models for girls and boys alike in the sciences.

Aketh Innovation Robotics Lab

As a Robotics Lab, our main educational objective is to help students (of primary and junior secondary level) understand that our lives are deeply connected with science. This can be achieved with Robotics hands-on activities that promote the interdisciplinary concept among different kind of science, and not only.

We plan to organize classroom discussion to emphasize the many different ways science and technology touch our daily lives. This will happen on Saturday, 11th November 2017, during the Robotics lessons of our Lab. The event will be published in our facebook account:

I am currently the teacher of a specialised course on Scientific English, at the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas in San Cristóbal de La Laguna (Spain). We are a specialized state language school, catering for students who are 16+. In our School we teach English, French, German and Russian.. We have 3,000+ students.

The course I am in charge of caters for PhD students and Doctors who work/research at the University of La Laguna, and other research institutes in the area.

This week I have organised a trip to the Museum of the Science and the Cosmos. Some volunteer students have previously been provided with the explanations of the exhibits in the Museum in English, which they will learn so as to the day of the visit explain them to the rest of their classmates, in English, of course.

I did this activity last year with three other groups, and it was a complete success.
