Aldrie Henry-Lee is a Professor of Social Policy and Director at the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies at the University of the West Indies (Mona Campus). She served as Associate Dean with responsibility for teaching and learning in the Faculty of Social Sciences, Mona from 2007 to 2015. Joining the UWI community in 1995, she has also taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Professor Henry-Lee is also the Chair of the annual Caribbean Child Research Conference.
Professor Aldrie Henry-Lee is a sociologist who has conducted research and published in the areas of social protection, children’s rights and poverty in the Caribbean. A St. Lucian by birth, her research work has included the examination of poverty in St. Lucia, Grenada, Jamaica and Belize with a focus on the measurement of poverty and the evaluation of social protection programmes. She has also carried out research on the policy progress in Jamaica, St. Vincent, Turks and Caicos Islands and British Virgin Islands. Professor Henry-lee has also published widely.
Her awards include Principal Mona's Distinguished Researcher Award for the Faculty of Social Sciences, Mona (2002/2003). The annual Caribbean Child Research Conference won the award for the Project/Activity with the most developmental impact for the Faculty of Social Sciences (2008/2009). She was also selected as the UWI/Guardian Life Premium Teaching Awardee (2010) for the Mona Campus, UWI. Professor Henry-Lee‘s most enjoyable academic exercise is engaging with her students.
