About UNESCO Montevideo

UNESCO Montevideo was established in 1949, shortly after the birth of the Organization worldwide, under the name of UNESCO Centre for Scientific Cooperation for Latin America and the Caribbean. It was UNESCO's first scientific cooperation centre in the world. It arose from a request by UNESCO's Second General Conference, held in 1947 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to convene leading experts to advise the Organization on how best to help advance science in Latin America.
