Information session “Cultural expressions: Innovative Approaches and Data Collection Tools”

An information session entitled “Cultural expressions: Innovative Approaches and Data Collection Tools” will be held at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, 29 November 2010, from 9.30 a.m. to 11 a.m., in Room II. This meeting is being organized as a follow-up to the debates of the third ordinary session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, held in December 2009. It will take place before the fourth ordinary session of the Committee (29 November – 3 December 2010).

The purpose of this information session is to engage the Committee members in an initial exchange with experts involved in the elaboration of the new UNESCO Framework for Cultural Statistics and representatives of the working group on methodologies in order to measure the diversity of cultural expressions.

The meeting will be moderated by Mr Renato Flores, Professor at the Graduate School of Economics at the Fondação Getulio Vargas (Rio de Janeiro). Presentations will be made by Mr Henrik van der Pol, Director of the UNESCO Institute for Statistics and Ms Françoise Benhamou, Professor at the University of Paris-XIII.

Permanent Delegations as well as intergovernmental and non governmental organizations having interests and activities in the fields covered by the Convention have been invited to participate in the information session.
