Celebrating partnerships for inclusive and sustainable cultural policies during MONDIACULT 2022
As part of the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development – MONDIACULT 2022 – the European Commission organizes a side-event on “Partnerships for inclusive and sustainable policies”with the participation of UNESCO, bringing together representatives from regional and subregional intergovernmental organisations, as well as Member States to reflect on how reinforced cooperation can strengthen cultural policies.
Taking place at Los Pinos in Mexico City on 28 September 2022 at 2:00pm GMT-5 (9:00pm CET), the side-event will be livestreamed. Representatives from the European Union (EU), African Union (AU), Pacific Community (PC), and CECC/SICA Central America, among others, will discuss two central themes: lessons learnt and opportunities for new partnerships for culture; and the elaboration of inclusive and sustainable policies for culture, with a focus on youth inclusion and empowerment.
The side-event builds on successful regional cooperation and initiatives such as the EU/UNESCO Expert Facility on the Governance of Culture for the implementation of the 2005 UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
The Expert Facility is part of the larger partnership in the field of Culture between UNESCO and the EU, which celebrates its 10th anniversary to date the Expert Facility has provided guidance on civil-society engagements and innovative practices in the elaboration of regulatory frameworks for cultural and creative industries to 25 countries. Regional and global cooperation are key to the technical assistance provided, and more than 30 countries have participated in a peer-to-peer exchange, promoting North-South-South cooperation.
The momentum for regional and global cooperation for culture and sustainable development is growing especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has underlined that inclusive and sustainable cultural policies are essential to create ecosystems that promote cultural diversity and in which cultural actors can thrive.
