Draft Law of the Republic of Armenia "On audio-visual media" is in circulation in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, which aims at ensuring everyone's right to receive reliable information, the right for editorial independence and the right to freedom of expression of opinion, independence of the body regulating audio-visual media sector, independence of the body ensuring management of activities of public audio-visual media services and carrying out control, diversity of audio-visual programmes and protection and development of audio-visual information area.
As a result of implementation of the policy in audio-visual media sector, it is expected to improve the quality of audio-visual products of public broadcasters, establish favourable and prospective legal framework, create equal competitive environment in the media sector, establish high-quality journalism, raise the level of media literacy, exclude hate speech, ensure effective media management, ensure transparency of the ownership rights in the media sector.

The Law of the Republic of Armenia "On television and radio" in force is no more relevant for regulating audio-visual media sector, as the provisions of the law are not in line with the existing characteristics of the outlook. Adoption of a new law regulating the sector will allow regulating all the types of audio-visual communications that are under the responsibility of editorial staff of the service provider, distributors and those making audio-visual products available to users.
